Fiberglass Grating for Corrosive & Heavy-Duty Environments

FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic) grating is a structural flooring material manufactured from continuous E-glass fiber reinforcement and thermosetting resin. Molded grating is produced by laying glass fibers in a mold in both directions and saturating them with resin, creating a one-piece panel with exceptional bi-directional strength. Pultruded grating is manufactured by pulling continuous glass fibers through a resin bath and heated die, resulting in higher stiffness and load capacity.

Our FRP grating products are available in standard square mesh (38×38 mm, 40×40 mm, 50×50 mm), mini mesh (19×19/38×38 mm, 20×20/40×40 mm), micro mesh and rectangular mesh configurations. Standard panel sizes include 1220×3660 mm, 1220×2440 mm, 1000×2000 mm, 915×3050 mm and other dimensions. Available resin systems include orthophthalic polyester, isophthalic polyester and vinyl ester for different chemical exposure levels.

We supply FRP grating for overseas distributors, industrial buyers, construction companies, maintenance companies and OEM customers, with free design drawings and free solution support to ensure your project meets its specific load, span and corrosion requirements.

Material Advantages

Why Choose FRP Grating?

FRP grating combines corrosion resistance, lightweight construction, high strength and slip safety, making it superior to traditional materials in many demanding industrial environments.

01

Superior Corrosion Resistance

FRP grating does not rust and resists acids, alkalis, salt water and most industrial chemicals. The resin system can be matched to the specific chemical exposure for optimal performance.

02

Lightweight & High Strength

With a density approximately 1/4 that of steel, FRP grating is easy to handle and install while providing excellent load-bearing performance. Pultruded grating weighs only 25% of steel and 70% of aluminum on an equal volume basis.

03

Slip Resistant Surfaces

Gritted anti-slip surfaces maintain high performance even after one million footfalls. Concave (meniscus) surfaces provide superior slip resistance in most environments.

04

Non-Conductive

FRP grating is non-conductive and non-magnetic, making it suitable for electrical infrastructure, switchgear and other sensitive applications.

Material Comparison

FRP Grating vs. Steel, Aluminum & Timber

The following table provides a general comparison of typical properties for FRP grating versus traditional grating materials. Values are representative and may vary depending on specific grades and formulations.

Property FRP Grating Steel Grating Aluminum Grating Timber
Specific Gravity ~1.9 g/cm³ 7.85 g/cm³ 2.70 g/cm³ 0.6–0.8 g/cm³
Weight (Equivalent Volume) ~25% of steel; ~70% of aluminum Heavy Light Medium
Corrosion Resistance Excellent; resin system matched to environment Requires coating or galvanizing Good in many environments Poor; requires protection
Slip Resistance Excellent (gritted/concave surfaces) Depends on surface pattern Depends on surface profile Can become slippery when wet
Electrical Conductivity Non-conductive Conductive Conductive Variable with moisture
Maintenance Requirement Low; no painting required High (coating inspection) Low High (sealing, treatment)
Typical Service Life Long in matched environment Tied to corrosion protection Good in suitable environments Dependent on moisture
Fire Performance Fire-retardant grades available Non-combustible Non-combustible Combustible

* Values are typical reference values for common grades and may vary depending on specific products and formulations. FRP grating offers the best combination of corrosion resistance, lightweight construction and low maintenance. Steel provides maximum stiffness and load capacity. Aluminum is a lightweight metallic alternative. Timber is economical but requires more maintenance. Always confirm with our technical team for your application.

Selection Guide

How to Choose FRP Grating

The correct grating type, mesh size, thickness and resin system should be selected based on span, load, chemical exposure and environmental conditions.

01

Grating Type

Choose molded grating for bi-directional strength and impact resistance; choose pultruded grating for higher stiffness, longer spans and heavier concentrated loads.

02

Mesh & Thickness

Select mesh size based on required open area, drainage and ball-fall safety requirements. Thickness determines load capacity and deflection.

03

Resin System

Orthophthalic polyester for general use; isophthalic polyester for enhanced corrosion resistance; vinyl ester for maximum chemical resistance in aggressive environments.

04

Surface & Compliance

Specify gritted surface for slip safety, concave for general use, or covered for odor containment. Confirm fire rating, ASTM F3059 or other compliance requirements.

Manufacturing

Controlled Production for Consistent Quality

Precision fiber placement, resin impregnation and curing are critical for reliable FRP grating performance.

PROCESS / 01

Fiber Preparation

Continuous E-glass fibers are arranged in both directions for molded grating, or in the load direction for pultruded grating.

PROCESS / 02

Molding / Pultrusion

Fibers are saturated with resin and shaped in a heated mold (molded) or pulled through a heated die (pultruded) to form the grating structure.

PROCESS / 03

Inspection & Testing

Panels are inspected for dimensional accuracy, mesh uniformity, surface quality and load performance.

PROCESS / 04

Cutting & Packaging

Panels are cut to standard or custom sizes, and packaged with protective materials for safe transport.

    FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions About FRP Grating

    What is FRP grating?
FRP (Fiber Reinforced Plastic) grating is a structural flooring material made from glass fiber reinforcement and thermosetting resin. It is used for industrial platforms, walkways, trench covers and stair treads as a corrosion-resistant alternative to steel and aluminum grating.
What is the difference between molded and pultruded FRP grating?
Molded grating has a square mesh pattern and offers excellent bi-directional strength and impact resistance. Pultruded grating has a rectangular mesh pattern and offers higher stiffness and load capacity for longer spans and heavier concentrated loads.
Do you provide free design drawings?
Yes. We provide free CAD design drawings and panel layouts. Simply send us your span, load requirements, chemical exposure and dimensions, and our engineering team will deliver the drawings typically within 24–48 hours.
What is the maximum span for FRP grating?
Maximum span depends on grating type, thickness, load and allowable deflection. Molded grating typically spans up to 1200 mm for moderate loads; pultruded grating can span up to 1500 mm or more for heavier loads. Contact us for free load and deflection calculations.
    What resin systems are available?
Orthophthalic polyester for general industrial use; isophthalic polyester for enhanced corrosion resistance; vinyl ester for maximum chemical resistance in aggressive environments.
What is the temperature range of FRP grating?
FRP grating typically operates from -80°C to +140°C depending on the resin system. Confirm the specific temperature limits for your selected resin.
Can FRP grating be cut on site?
Yes. FRP grating can be cut on site using standard tools (angle grinder, skill saw) with appropriate dust control. Edge sealing may be required depending on the specification.
    Is FRP grating slip resistant?
Yes. Gritted anti-slip surfaces maintain high performance even after one million footfalls. Concave (meniscus) surfaces provide superior slip resistance in most environments.
    Is FRP grating RoHS compliant?
RoHS compliance can be provided for applicable resin systems and documentation requirements. Please confirm when requesting a quotation.
What information do you need for a quotation?
Please provide the grating type (molded or pultruded), mesh size, thickness, panel dimensions, quantity, span, load requirements, chemical exposure and any special requirements such as fire rating or slip resistance.
