Wear-Resistant Aramid Fiber Gland Packing

Composition:

  • Discontinuous aramid yarns

  • PTFE impregnation

  • Silicone-free lubricant

Product Overview

Wear-resistant aramid fiber gland packing combines high strength with low weight. Aramid fibers, like graphite, have a slightly negative coefficient of thermal expansion, allowing dimensional adjustments that improve thermal stability.

Aramid packings provide excellent resistance to impact and abrasion, similar to graphite. They can also be made waterproof by combining them with other materials such as epoxy. When used in rubber composites, aramid fibers retain flexibility while delivering high tensile modulus, low elongation at break, and strong chemical resistance—making them ideal for demanding industrial applications.

Compared with conventional braided packings, aramid gland packing withstands more aggressive media and higher pressures. It can be installed alone or combined with other packing materials as end rings, enabling a hybrid seal with tailored performance characteristics.

The packing is highly resilient and maintains its volume, reducing the need for frequent gland adjustments. Because aramid exhibits low thermal expansion under operating conditions, it exerts less pressure on shaft sleeves and minimizes abrasion.

Key Benefits

  1. High-Temperature Resistance
Aramid gland packing offers excellent thermal resistance, withstanding continuous temperatures up to 260°C and short-term peaks up to 600°C under limited exposure. This makes it suitable for high-heat applications in chemical processing, power generation, and petrochemical industries.

  2. Low Friction and Wear
Aramid fibers have a low coefficient of friction, reducing wear on both the packing and shaft surfaces. Lower friction also decreases power consumption, making aramid gland packing a more energy-efficient sealing solution.

  3. Chemical Resistance
Aramid gland packing provides outstanding resistance to aggressive chemicals and corrosive fluids, including acids, alkalis, solvents, and hydrocarbons.

Applications

  • Pumps and Compressors
Aramid gland packing is widely used to seal rotating shafts in pumps and compressors. It delivers reliable sealing and prevents leakage of fluids and gases under high pressure and temperature conditions.

  • Valves and Flanges
Aramid gland packing is also used in valves and flanges to prevent leakage and ensure a tight seal. Its ability to withstand high pressures and resist chemicals makes it ideal for chemical processing plants and refineries.

  • Steam Applications
Wear-resistant aramid fiber gland packing is well suited for steam service, handling high temperatures and pressures while providing reliable sealing under demanding conditions.
